Legal Help for the Wesley Family

On January 26th, 2020 my “baby aunt” Sophia Grace Wesley died at 7 years old after being flown to a hospital in critical condition in Birmingham, Alabama. She passed 2 hours later and doctors could not determine the cause of death. Her passing was heartbreaking and we are still trying to make sense of it, but the same day, her other three siblings were taken by DHR and put into foster care. Not only did my grandmas have to mourn the death of their 7 year old child, but the absence of the rest of their children at the same time. Sophia was autistic, and so are her brothers and sister, Jacob, Isabella, and Alexander. As many parents of special needs children know, they don’t always know how to tell you when they are hurting or when something is wrong. Sophia had pneumonia with no symptoms, she was the same happy little girl she always was until the very morning she passed. Her pneumonia had spread to her bloodstream and she was already septic by the time she got to the hospital. When we got the autopsy back showing her death was from natural causes we thought surely this nightmare would be over. But instead DHR is now pressing charges stating that the remaining children are in danger, if returned home. My grandmothers have been given two court appointed lawyers, the first quit without reasoning and the second will not return our phone calls. My mom gave up everything to move back to Alabama and get custody of the kids so they wouldn’t have to be in foster care, and it was a miracle that they finally ended up in her care. Now they have been here for 3 months and the court date keeps getting pushed back due to COVID-19, but we honestly don’t think the kids will be going home any time soon. We need a good lawyer. We didn’t think it would get to this point but now we are desperate to do anything and everything we can to get these babies back home with their mothers. I can personally assure you that my grandmothers are the most amazing women you will ever meet. They have devoted their lives to adopting, loving, and caring for these children. Anything you can spare will help. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Much love from the Millers and the Wesleys.
