HELP DR. ATIF NAZIR FIGHT HATE IN PISCATAWAY, CONTRIBUTE TO HIS LEGAL SUPPORT FUND: Earlier this year, Piscataway resident and private citizen Dr. Atif Nazir was the target of a hateful election-time smear by the local Democratic political machine. A flyer paid for by State Senator Bob Smith, and circulated by the wife of Mayor Brian Wahler was targeted to Indian-Americans and translated into Gujarati to target that voting bloc, opposing Central Jersey Progressive Democrats (CJPD) running for Democratic County Committee. The dog-whistle attack, which claimed that Dr. Nazir is "the leader of a radical group trying to take over the government" was coded to stir fear and division against the Muslim community in Piscataway. It was an attempt to divide the South Asian community along religious, ethnic and national lines. The letter, signed by Councilman Kapil Shah, School Board member Nitang Patel and Zoning Board member Kalpesh Patel drew a sharp rebuke from over 300 people and the Star Ledger editorial board. Dr. Nazir has filed a School Ethics Complaint against Nitang Patel, who identified himself as a BOE member in the flyer, in clear violations of school ethics rules. That case is now pending before an administrative law judge and has begun to move through the legal process, despite an effort by Mr. Patel to have it dismissed. Please contribute to Dr. Nazir's Legal Support Fund, so that he has strong legal representation in the upcoming proceedings about this issue. Help Dr. Nazir and members of our community tell local politicians that hate has have no home here, and no one responsible for educating our children should be promoting hate and divisiveness.
