Legal Defense Fund - Cascadia Safety Group
Donation protected
As some of you may already be aware, in January 2024 Stephon Mullett, a Victoria-based photographer and former Cascadia member, launched a civil defamation lawsuit relating to posts on Cascadia. He has named all of the administrators of the Cascadia Model and Photographer Safety group and two of the models who shared their experiences. He is seeking unspecified monetary damages as well as a retraction, apology, and re-admittance to the Cascadia Group. The lawsuit is a matter of public record. Court documents filed in the case are available to the public, for a small fee.
Cascadia exists to promote safety of participants in the modelling and photography industry, and we continue to believe that Cascadia serves a very important public interest purpose. In a nutshell our defence is that we reported the truth to our members who rely on us to inform them. The admin team is defending themselves at their own expense, which is a financial hardship. Mr. Mullett has obtained default judgments against the model defendants, who we suspect were unable to afford to defend themselves. If you support our defence and can afford to help with the legal costs, we will be launching a GoFundMe to help defray our legal costs. If, at the end of the process, there are any surplus funds, we will either donate those funds to a local women’s shelter, or return the funds to the donors, according to their wishes.
Thank you for your support.
