The Mock Trial Association at the University of Houston invites pre-law students, and just anyone financially able to donate whatever they can to The Bail Project, on behalf of protesters and low-income people across the US who can't afford bail. Why Donate?
Thousands of protesters across the US are being arrested even when they haven't done anything other than exercise their First Amendment right to peaceful protest. Considering our close connection to the legal system, it is imperative that pre-law students and law students alike take a stand by raising money for bail funds across the US. The Bail Project not only helps protesters, but also helps low-income people in other cases who can't afford bail. They are dedicated to ending the structural inequality that is the cash-bail system, which disproportionately affects communities of color.
More About The Bail Project:
The Bail Project is a new non-profit organization designed to combat mass incarceration by disrupting the money bail system, one person at a time. Over the next five years, The Bail Project will work with local partners to open dozens of sites in high-need jurisdictions and pay bail for tens of thousands of low-income people, reducing the human suffering caused by unaffordable cash bail and building on the work of grassroots groups and movements for decarceration and racial justice. The Bail Project is a certified non-profit organization and 100% of funds donated are used to bring people home.
