Legal Action to Get Youth 12-17 Back To Sport

Imagine your child being stopped at the front door of a sports facility, being asked for their "papers" (which provide absolutely no indication of their current state of health) BEFORE being allowed to play their favourite sport which they've been playing for the past several years? And when they are told that they CANNOT enter, they turn away with tears in their eyes, wondering what happened to the freedom they once had.

We are a group of local parents taking legal action against local Public Health units in Ontario to retract the mandates in Youth Sports for 12+. The province has not mandated it for this age group, so why are the local health units? There must have been some direction given by the Medical Officer of Health for the province not to include youth sports in their mandates. Perhaps it is the data that undoubtedly proves that children, aged 12-17, do NOT pose a risk of serious health complications, hospitalizations or even death.

This outright DISCRIMINATION against our children is unbearable and unjust. Children should NOT be shut out of their daily physical activities because of a family medical decision. Since when is it okay to turn HEALTHY children away from wanting to play hockey, soccer, basketball, dance, gymnastics, baseball, etc.? The impact of these unlawful mandates is far-reaching.

The mental health of our youth is SEVERELY at risk and has already been tremendously affected by all these mandates, including masking, social distancing and more importantly, lockdowns. Youth NEED to remain physically active in team sports for many reasons, including keeping their immune systems strong and robust, to reduce stress and pressures, boosting self-esteem, and to foster team work. The stories of families whose children have been affected by the mandates are absolutely heart-breaking.

Our children have suffered enough during the past year and a half!
