I am running the Leeds Half Marathon on 11th May to raise money for Beat (formerly Eating Disorders Association). Beat is the UK's eating disorder charity which aims to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. Around 1.25million people in the UK suffer with an eating disorder, many of those in secret.
This charity is very close to my heart due to a close family member struggling over the past few years with anorexia. I did not realise the impact that eating disorders had on not only the sufferer but also their family and friends. Anorexia completely changes people's lives as it does not only affect their health and well being but also strains relationships with friends as well as consuming their whole lives stopping them from participating in the things they love the most. It can completely change them as a person, becoming a shell of the person they used to be.
Eating disorders are not defined by people's body image and weight, they are defined by the controlling toxic relationship with a voice inside their head. I just want to raise money and awareness to help others going through these extremely difficult times of their lives.
