Learn for Life Empowerment Project

Hello, friends!

We are Paula and Luisa, and we are raising funds for the Learn for Life project in Varanasi, India. Since its founding in 2004, this non-profit has made a significant impact, and after volunteering there for two months in 2024, we can attest to its importance and difference it makes in peoples lives. We invite you to donate to ensure that this program continue this vital work!

Heart of it is the Badi Asha School, which serves approximately 170 students ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade. The school provides free education, healthcare, meals, school supplies, and uniforms, creating access to opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach for these impoverished children. Beyond academics, the school incorporates art, music, drama, gardening, and computer education into its curriculum, fostering creativity and personal growth.

Badi Asha is more than a school; it’s a safe space where children are cared for, supported, and empowered. The staff’s dedication extends beyond the classroom, as they conduct regular family visits to ensure children are attending regularly and intervene when challenges like abuse arise. Alumni are also supported with secondary school fees, showing the organization’s unwavering commitment to each child’s future.

The Brown Bread Bakery, established in 2006, is another vital part of Learn for Life. This organic bakery and restaurant provides free vocational training and job opportunities for ex-students and underprivileged individuals, helping them build sustainable careers. In addition, the bakery supports local food production and sustainable farming. It also runs a guesthouse and tour guide training program, all profits from which are reinvested into the project to support education, fair working conditions, and healthcare for the staff and trainees. During our time in Varanasi, we saw how deeply this organisation is rooted in the community and how it transforms lives with care, thoughtfulness, and a focus on long-term impact. It was an inspiring and humbling experience to be part of such meaningful work, and we’re committed to supporting Learn for Life from afar.
