On February 25th 2021, my life changed in an instant. At 10:30 that morning, my son Leander suffered a massive brain bleed. He was rushed to the hospital where they spent the next 2 hours trying to diagnose him while also fighting to keep him alive. At one point, his heart stopped and he had to be resuscitated.  Once a determination was made, he was rushed to emergency surgery where they removed part of his skull to evacuate a blood clot that covered 70% of the left side of his brain. Due to the intense swelling, his skull was left out and will not be replaced until all swelling as subsided. This traumatic brain injury has left my baby paralyzed on his right side and unable to speak. He is in need of very intense inpatient therapy and rehabilitation. Once he has been discharged from Vanderbilt, we will transfer directly to a facility in Atlanta, Georgia for his therapy. While insurance will be covering the vast majority of his medical expenses, my fiancé and I will be accompanying him on his recovery journey in Atlanta. This will be leaving us both out of work and without income for several weeks upwards of even 2 months. We have some savings but not nearly enough to afford living expenses, food, travel, etc. for the duration of his therapy. Where as Leander will be staying in the facility, we must find other means of boarding. I’ve struggled with setting up this account, as I am not very good at accepting help or asking for it, but my baby needs me so I will swallow my pride and do whatever I must to ensure Leander has as smooth a journey as I can provide.
