On 8th June 2018 I am joining a team from Holyrood High School in Glasgow to go to Blantyre in Malawi as a volunteer for 16 days.
I'll spend my time building walls, painting, gardening and anything else they need me for.
I'm really nervous but also excited to go do something that will make a huge positive difference to a child's life.
I don't like spiders , snakes or anything that makes noises in the dark. I'm sure there will be tears and moments of regrets at 3am when there's no electricity but I'm 100% sure this is the right thing to do so I'll suck it up and do my very best.
All Malawi team members for 2018 must raise at least £2500 to pay for air fares and to pay for building materials.
I hope you can help.
Please read below about the Holyrood Project ⬇️
Holyrood High has been running this project for 10 years and has seen the build of over 30 new classrooms , 2 school libraries, 2 units for children with additional support needs plus a toilet for children with disability. They have refurbished and decorated 2 Mary’s Meals under 6 Feeding Centres. Also they have refurbished and decorated with learning materials over 40 other classrooms.
Holyrood works in close partnership with the charity, Mary's Meals, whose ambition is to feed the starving children of the world but to do so specifically in a place of education. They seek to encourage children to attend school by ensuring they have a life-giving meal in school each day. In some of those areas where Mary's Meals work to improve attendance,
Holyrood's work has been to provide more/better accommodation to meet the needs of better attended schools. Accommodation, however, continues to be critically short and in extremely poor condition.
