UPDATE: (07/02/25)

The extent of the damage (both structurally and to contents) is unfortunately worse than anticipated and has now exposed/aggravated asbestos into the home.

Despite the fire being caused by the negligence of a builder (who is not responsive), the situation is costing Laura huge amounts, both in restoration and temporary accommodation. There are still no updates as to how long the process is going to take.

On Wednesday 8th January 2025 our sister - Laura Travers, niece - Ellie Travers (5), and Lola (the dog) were made homeless as a result of a housefire caused by building works on the neighbouring property.

Fortunately, Ellie was not home when the fire started, and Laura and Lola were able to escape, although Laura had to be treated at hospital for smoke inhalation.

Their home is not fit to live in due to smoke and structural damage and there is currently no indication of when the repair works might take place. The landlord’s insurance doesn’t cover temporary accommodation beyond Wednesday 15th January, and much of their furniture, clothes toys, and electrical items have been ruined.

Lots of you have asked about supporting Laura, Ellie, and Lola (thank you!) so we have set up this GoFundMe for those who wish to help, and are able to.

Funds raised will go towards securing and furnishing a new home for Laura, Ellie, and Lola, and towards replacement clothes, books, appliances etc.
