We're so grateful you're here, and we're excited to share our story with you.
We are Will and Laura Thompson, and we've been married for seven years. We are deeply grateful that God brought us together, and our marriage has been filled with joy. Yet, as with many couples, we have also been carrying profound grief throughout this journey. In early 2020, just five months into our marriage, our lives changed in a way we never saw coming.
We were in our newlywed phase, beginning our path together, when COVID-19 started shutting down the world. One day, we received a letter from Laura’s doctor with lab results that were devastating. The diagnosis indicated infertility. It was very shocking news because her previous tests had indicated she was healthy. We felt confusion, disappointment, and sadness.
But the heartbreak didn't stop there. The pandemic had made things worse. At first the doctors suggested there was a chance we could both have surgeries to help move forward. However, during a Zoom appointment, another medical specialist told us that even IVF - what we thought might be our last hope - would likely fail. The news was shattering. Infertility is very isolating in ways that only those who've experienced it can truly understand. The grief was so heavy for us and all-consuming.
It was about a year after attending counseling to deal with these losses that something profound happened - our grief began to transform. With faith guiding us, peace settled over both our hearts. We knew were called to a different path of raising a child together. In 2021, we consulted with an adoption attorney who was kind, compassionate, and deeply encouraging. He shared that he had seen birth mothers matched with adoptive families in as little as a few weeks, though he also prepared us for the possibility of waiting years. As we looked at our circumstances surrounding finances and the size of our apartment, we made the difficult decision to wait. We didn't want to rush something this important. So, we waited patiently, trusting God's timing.
In 2024, as we settled into our home and Will navigated some challenges at work, we decided to continue waiting a bit longer. Instead of sitting idle, we volunteered and became foster kitten parents through Cat PAWS, a wonderful kitten rescue organization. We poured our love into vulnerable kittens from local shelters, nurturing them back to health and helping them find their forever homes. We cared for Bunny, Jellybean, Charlie, David, Walter, Moxley, Jericho, and so many others. The joy we found in helping these kittens grow and become adopted was preparing our hearts, even before we knew it.
This July we were ready to adopt. We knew adoption could take years - or might not happen at all - and we were at peace with that. We called the adoption agency to restart the application and likely begin the long wait. God had other plans! Just a week later, we received a call that a birth mother had chosen us to adopt and raise her unborn child. We couldn't believe it. We started crying from overwhelming, astonishing joy. God had provided faster than we could have ever imagined! We found out that the birth mother resides out of state and will be delivering the second week of this September, a month away! We will fly there to be present for that miraculous occasion.
Our community's unwavering support has meant everything to us, and we're honored to invite you into this wonderful new season as we welcome our baby boy home. Love and prayers from friends and family have helped bring us to this point in our journey, and we're in awe of how God has already placed each of you so meaningfully into our family's story. We are so grateful! Adoption is a wonderful blessing, and the costs involved can be considerable. We're doing everything we can to make this happen, and God has faithfully provided for us, time and again. We still need to raise $20,000 to cover legal fees in two states, adoption agency fees, home study costs, and travel expenses. If you're moved to give, know that every gift, no matter the size, is a precious step toward bringing our baby boy home.

Love,
Will and Laura Thompson
