Surviving Without a Safety Net - Launching a Survivor-Built Service Model
For most of my life, I survived without a safety net. Not because I chose to, but because there wasn't one.
I grew up in violence, loss, and silence. My mother died from abuse when I was eleven. I learned early that survival meant staying alert, staying guarded, and figuring things out on my own. There were no roadmaps, no mentors, no systems designed to protect children like me.
And yet, I survived.
Over time, survival became service.
For more than twenty-five years, I've worked in education, corrections, and domestic violence advocacy. restorative practices, and community support, often behind the scenes, often unpaid, and often unseen. I've answered crisis calls when funded agencies didn't. I've designed curricula that transformed lives while others took credit. I've trained staff, supported families, and held circles in some of the most broken systems we have.
What I learned is this:
Most systems don't fail because people don't care.
They fail because they are not built by those who have lived the problem.
That's why I created Surviving Without a Safety Net.
This is not a motivational program. It's not therapy. It's not charity. It is a trauma-informed, restorative service model designed for adults who grew up surviving violence, poverty, incarceration, caregiving burden, and generational trauma, without reliable support.
This program helps people
  • Regulate survival-based responses
  • Reclaim language and self-direction
  • Learn how systems actually work (and how to navigate them)
  • Develop healthy boundaries and leadership capacity
  • Move from survival into stability, agency, and purpose
It is built from lived experience and decisions of frontline practice - not theory, not replication.
Because I'm done giving this work away.
For years, institutions have benefited from what I built without funding it. They used the outcomes, the language, and the transformation - while I carried the cost. That model is unsustainable, and it keeps effective solutions from reaching the people who need them most.
This GoFundMe is not about rescuing me.
It is about launching the first protected pilot of Surviving Without a Safety Net so that:
  • Participants receive services with dignity.
  • Emerging leaders can be trained ethically
  • The work is documented, protected, and prepared for larger funding
  • A survivor-built model can finally stand on its own foundation
Funds raised will support:
  • Program facilitation and delivery
  • Participant materials and accessibility
  • Leadership training and mentoring
  • Outcome documentation and evaluation
  • Administrative protection to ensure sustainability
Every contribution helps move this work from the margins into the center - where real change belongs.
If you believe people who survive without safety nets deserve more than temporary services...
If you believe lived experience matters...
If you believe systems should be built by those who understand their failures from the inside...
Then you are helping build something that lasts.
Thank you for standing with this work, not out of pity, but out of purpose
