Lasting Legacy of Shane Price

Donation protected
Shane walked into my life in 2010 when I wasn't even looking. Shane's love didn't come with a warning, it arrived, and changed everything. When we met, I knew we had something special. Most people would be searching their whole life, to find what we'd already found. We had our own individuality but yet we were so perfectly matched.

In 2016 our world was turned upside down when Shane suffered a seizure and was diagnosed with a brain tumour which we later discovered would affect eloquent areas crucial for essential functions like speech, language, cognitive processing, and movement. Shane's diagnosis significantly disrupted our life, leading to constant hospitals appointments and uncertainty. Despite all this, we always tried to remain positive.

In 2020 during the amidst of COVID-19 Shane underwent neurosurgery (Left Craniotomy) to debulk his tumour. This was life changing. Shane experienced neurological damage causing life-lasting conditions, revocation of his driving licence, emotional distress, the inability to continue work, and loss of independence. The complications which had arisen from surgery also meant our wedding had to be postponed, however we eventually married in May 2022. This was an important milestone to us both and due to our shared traditional values, we were excited to now start planning a family.

Unfortunately, after our wedding, Shane's tumour showed signs of progression and Shane began to deteriorate. Further surgery was considered, however this was no longer the primary treatment option and instead Shane was to have Chemotherapy. These Chemotherapy cycles continued every 4 to 6 weeks throughout the reminder of Shane's life. We always hoped for a better tomorrow, but we always worked today to achieve it. Our resilience allowed us to 'bounce back' strengthening our bond rather than weakening it. We would always say the quality of our life was determined by how we shuffled the cards we'd been dealt.

My whole world came crashing down when Shane sadly passed away on 12th June 2025; he'd unfortunately lost his courageous battle with incredible strength and dignity.

Prior to commencing Chemotherapy in 2022, Shane had fertility preservation to safeguard his ability for us to have a child together and consented to posthumous conception if required. We were always hoping for a period of stability in Shane's life, so we could decide upon the optimal timing to start our IVF journey. Shane's care and wellbeing was paramount to me; I dedicated my everything to Shane so I could provide him with the best quality of life and without the continued help and support from my mam this would not have been possible.

Shane was aware that my time would have always been divided and that I'd always be faced with the difficult decision of prioritising between the needs of my husband and future child. He'd typically joke and say how could I push a wheelchair and pram simultaneously but this was the harsh reality of our situation. Shane was also very mindful of the unpredictable nature of our circumstances arising from his brain tumour and the potential impact a heavy involvement of a hospital environment would have had on his child's life. He'd have wanted our child to go swimming, not to his oncology appointments.

There is no doubt Shane would have made a brilliant father. Shane touched so many lives with his warmth, laughter, and gentle soul. His attitude, resilience and strength were to be admired. Shane continued to be positive, polite, caring and a well-respected gentleman.

His absence is so deeply felt but I am determined to honour Shane's memory and hopefully fulfil our wish of having baby Price by proceeding with IVF.

Some funding is already in place for us to continue with IVF however there will be additional future costs incurred. After the thoughtful suggestion from a friend, I've decided that the funeral collection/flower donations are in lieu of creating a lasting legacy in Shane's name so he can continue to support and help fund life surrounding a future baby Price after his passing. All funds raised will remain with myself to continue IVF and may also contribute to the essentials needed for baby Price upon their arrival whenever this wonderful day will be.

It's not easy for me to share this level of vulnerability but I feel in my heart it's the right thing to do. Your generosity will help create a beautiful new chapter in our lives, therefore I'm humbly asking for any assistance you can offer, whether it's a donation, a share of our story or a kind word. We have been blessed with and surrounded by the most amazing, loving, and supportive people and I think it's only fair to give you the opportunity to be a part of this journey with me and continue Shane's legacy.

Many thanks,
Helene Price (Nee Petch)
