Hi, My name is Kasi Shaw, I have created this to help with the expenses of my dad's sudden passing on Friday, December 16, 2022, after being diagnosed with a very rare small cell carcinoma cancer 3 wks. ago to say the least we were not prepared at all. It happened so quickly as if he was in a sudden car accident. My dad had a UTI that was being treated but was not improving with antibiotics and experienced a new onset of sudden abdominal pain that was unbearable so the Urologist walked my dad over to the ER where they did a bunch of imaging to only find out he had aggressive cancer spreading from his bladder, liver, lymph nodes and bones. It is hard for our family to understand why it wasn't caught sooner given my dad recently had shoulder reversal surgery and was always following up with his PCP as instructed. Once we found out the cancer diagnosis our family came together and were ready to put up a fight, but several days later my dad began experiencing severe elevated temperature causing hallucinations, and we had to call 911. EMS showed up and talked my dad into allowing them to rush him to the ER again at which he walked himself to the ambulance. Arrived at the ER that is where we had all the imaging repeated and that is when we found out my dad was in liver and acute kidney failure causing him to hallucinate. They gave our family the option to transport him elsewhere to a bigger hospital with the specialist he needed but likely he would suffer hooked up to machines or we could put him on comfort care. Our family decided comfort care given my dad had voiced numerous times he did not want to suffer and was at peace going home to be with his loved ones and childhood best friends. My dad was admitted to the hospital for 2 days, then we were able to bring him home on hospice care for 1 1/2 days. Dad passed away peacefully at home as he wished with his family and animals. Most families have time to process cancer diagnosis and one last family trip of a lifetime, unfortunately, we didn't. My parents have been married for 48 yrs and were planning on celebrating their BIG 50th in Ireland. It's important to me to share his story to inform everyone how quickly you can lose the ones you love and to always live life to the fullest. The funds would truly help my mom with funeral expenses and donate to the full guard that will be performing at his funeral due to lord only knows how long it will take the government to approve her for his VA benefits. Our family appreciates all the calls and texts we have received.
