Some of you may know the Leonard family. They are a local family of 16. Veneta was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer a few years ago. She is fighting hard! She is determined to continue fighting because she knows her children need her. Her youngest is only seven. She also has three Type 1 Diabetic children she is determined to care for and keep healthy. Jeremy has been the sole provider for his family as Veneta was placed on disability. Yesterday, Jeremy was rushed to the hospital and immediately admitted. Today, he underwent a four hour emergency surgery. He had multiple rods put in his back. He has been in debilitating pain for 7 weeks now. After several doctor and emergency room visits, he was continually misdiagnosed with a pulled muscle and sent home on muscle relaxers. He kept returning, insisting it was more. It wasn't until yesterday a doctor finally made the true diagnosis. Jeremy had crushed vertebra and discs in his back that had become dangerously infected. The doctor said he was probably one or two days away from permanent paralysis. He will have a stay in the ICU as they run several pathology tests on the infection, which the doctor is very concerned about. God willing, he will then be sent home, for a recovery of at least 8 weeks and several months of antibiotics in hopes of killing all the infection. This large family cannot afford to lose their only source of income. They do not want to lose their home and know the medical bills and utilities will pile up fast.
