LAPU LAPU TRAGEDY: Fundraiser for Victims and their Families

New Update (4/28 3:41p est): I was in touch with the organizer of Christi and Nox's gofundme campaign and I'll be forwarding the funds here directly to her husband Matt Watkins. Hopefully the process will be quicker on my end since the amount is significantly lower than their campaign. Thank you Amanda Koop for establishing this connection ❤️.

Update: We've surpassed our goal and raised an additional $94.40 in cash at yesterday's event. Thank you for everyone's time and continued generosity.

For transparency: I/we are collecting these funds because we have the capacity and platform in order to take the load off some of our kapwa (community) who are likely overwhelmed mentally and emotionally and may not be able to orchestrate such a task.

How will the beneficiaries receive the funds and how do we know them?: I am reaching out to the community at large on Instagram stories and reels for names and emails of those affected whom I can send an etransfer to directly once the funds reach my account. I've become privy to other gofundme's of those directly impacted whom I may offer additional support to equally if no one else directly reaches out with names of people I can help. My relationship to the ones I'll be supporting are friends, friends and family of friends and others I see who are in need on gofundme.

Who I am: Diana Reyes (Fly Lady Di) of Filipino-Canadian descent born and raised in Toronto - an established artist as a Dancer, DJ, and Filipino Content creator. I wanted to use my platform in order to reach my community to amass help in this time of need since I have the capacity to do so.

How I intend funds will be used: Towards meals for individuals or families overwhelmed with grief or trauma, mental health counselling, other costs related to bereavement or lost wages due to inability to work.

I appreciate those with questions and concerns and completely understand and it's unfortunate that others have exploited incidents like this for their own gain. I/we assure you this is the furthest thing from that.

On behalf of Sundae Shorties, a small collective of DJs who are Filipino-Canadian based in Montreal, we empathize with those emotionally, financially and mentally impacted by the horrific incident that took place at the Lapu Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver on Saturday April 26, 2025.

We are gathering funds to distribute in order to help with medical expenses, loss of wages due to inability to work, professional counseling regarding mental health and to feed the families who were directly affected by the tragedy.

No amount is too small. THANK YOU - Maraming Salamat, and in the spirit of Lapu Lapu, we will rise above this.
