Lance Masters medical and moving expenses

Hi, I'm Amy Toohey, and this fundraiser is for my older brother Lance Masters. On July 23, just a few days after his 75th birthday, he fell while visiting what was planned to be his future home in Dumaguete, Philippines. He required surgery to remove a bloodclot from his brain. The first week+ he was in a coma and it was unclear whether he would survive, but he has now awakened! The surgeon has said there is no brain damage!

It is miraculous, but he has a long road to recovery. He is on a fixed income, which will not begin to cover his expenses during the coming months. First, there is durable medical equipment, such as a hospital bed with two lifts that will be needed. Next, he will not be able to stay in his condo in Makati, Philippines, but need to move to Dumaguete immediately instead of in a year or two as planned. The condo must be emptied. While some things will be sold, other items will need to be transported to Dumaguete, probably at least partially by ferry. We don't have a cost estimate for that yet, but I will update as things progress. In addition, his eldest son, George, who lives in California, needs to travel to the Philippines to oversee the move, and help arrange ongoing care for his dad. His travel expenses are included in our fundraising target. Lance's caregiver and companion, Maricel, is unable to do all of the care herself. Her relatives, particularly her son and her nephew, have given, and will continue to help give some of the assistance Lance will need for the foreseeable future. However, there will continue to be medical care, including some period of physical therapy to aid in Lance's recovery.

My brother is a good man, and has engaged in humanitarian efforts on behalf of others. Please help us, his small remaining family, keep Lance safe, comfortable, and support him as necessary on his path to recovery. Medicare doesn't work in the Philippines, and he is a self-pay patient.
