Lakeview Community Free Goods

Donation protected
A local organizing group with CODEPINK, currently known as Divest Mike, is raising money to distribute necessary items to our community members in need in Lakeview and surrounding areas.

The goods will include fresh clothing, bath products, first aid materials, menstrual products, nutritious snacks, grocery gift cards, train passes and more.

100% of donations will go to this free goods initiative and the restocking of its contents.

This mutual aid distribution will be held at Jonquil Park: 1001 W Wrightwood Ave, Chicago 60614. Our first distribution will be on August 13th from 12pm-5pm.

WHO WE ARE:
In 2021 we came together as a group of neighbors in IL District 5 to get our Representative Mike Quigley signed on to Medicare for All. We were successful in just three weeks. This year, Divest Mike has mounted pressure for Quigley to cosponsor the New War Powers Resolution 2022 for Yemen and succeeded within a month. Meanwhile, our campaign for him to refuse campaign funds from the top 5 weapons manufacturers is ongoing.

WHY A MUTUAL AID PROJECT:
As wealth and power have become all the more concentrated, more of our neighbors have to struggle to make ends meet. Poverty, inequality, genocide, climate change, mass incarceration, etc., are all cut from the same cloth: a rigged political system and a culture where we don’t have each other’s backs and are always competing. This builds to antagonism and violence, which is what our current war economy is set for. The ultra-rich don’t want us at the lower ranks learning to take care of one another.

Let’s not let the war economy win by neglecting each other, like how our politicians neglect us when hundreds of billions of dollars are funneled into militarization instead of livable wages, affordable housing, universal healthcare, and so on. Together we can build a local peace economy. Please help us in doing so by donating to this free goods distribution initiative.

All donation amounts are highly appreciated! On distribution days at our site, we will also accept donations of items such as $20 grocery gift cards, day / week / month ventra passes, brand new socks / t-shirts, packaged (aka store-bought) nutritious foods, and hygiene supplies. If you are interested in donating items but cannot attend a distribution, contact @DivestMike on our Instagram or Twitter!

If you’d like to get more involved in organizing and local community-building, message @DivestMike on our socials!
Help us get Quigley to divest!
