Help Me Volunteer Against Slavery

Donation protected
Hi! I am Laith Cameron - Hunwick. This year, I will be volunteering with rescued slave children (3-18 years) at Father's House in Keta, Ghana with educational charity, Project Trust. I am 17 years old and just graduated from high school after completing my advanced highers in biology, chemistry and music. Many of the children I will be working at Father's House were once enslaved within the fishing industry where they were forced to work 14-20 hours a day on one meal a day and no education. Some of the children were sold into slavery by their parents or were kidnapped. In order to be of assistance to these destitute children, I must to raise £6,200. I would appreciate your donations to help me gain valuable experience whilst doing my best to alleviate some of the issues associated with consequences of poverty.

About Project Trust

Project Trust is an educational charity and NGO that sends around 300 young people overseas for 8-12 months to either teach, work in social care or outward bound projects. Project Trust gives young people the tools to become a confident, effective, creative, independent and resilient individual through a challenging volunteering experience overseas.

What will I be doing?

My role will be to constantly involve myself within many aspects of the centre which can range from teaching subjects to the students to arranging extra curricular activities.

Where will I be living?

I will be living in a volunteer accommodation on the Father's House site.

What do I hope to gain from volunteering?

Overseas I hope to make a difference and give back to a community by making a positive change to these children's lives. I would also like to immerse myself into Ghanaian culture and lifestyle, to expand my worldview and step outside my comfort zone in order to learn more about the world beyond my doorstep. After my placement, I hope to have increased my confidence, my public speaking and teaching skills. I plan to attend university in 2018 and study neuropsychology.

What will the £6,200 go towards?

The money will go towards covering the cost of my flights, medical insurance, residential 4 day selection course, residential 4 day training course, support overseas, accommodation + food for the year and finally my residential 2 day debriefing course.

What you will get from donating

All donators will receive a link to my blog which will be up and running in September this year; the month I leave for Ghana.

Thank you for taking the time for reading about my project. I'm looking forward to begin this journey and see what difference I can make.

EDIT: Goal has been edited as I did not realise how large a cut gofundme takes from the campaign. Thank you all for the support!!!
