UPDATE!!!!

Hi- I am a friend of Lainey’s mom- Lainey is a 6 week old baby, my friend and her husband adopted Lainey the day she was born. Lainey has an older brother who is 3 and a sister who is 6 who are also adopted. They knew Lainey had some medical issues but nothing like the imaginable that has happened. Lainey’s mom Jess noticed her eyes were going cross eyed, so she took her to her GP on Dec 23 who than sent her to the emergency eye clinic, fast forward to December 30th they were seen at the eye clinic in Kingston where they had said they certainly seen a retinal detachment and potentially a large mass behind her left eye. They than referred them to sick kids in Toronto. Jessica took Lainey on December 31st to sick kids in Toronto that’s when the unimaginably happened, Lainey was diagnosed with retinoblastoma a rare form of eye cancer that’s generally found only in children. This type of cancer only affects around 25 kids per year worldwide wide. The stage of the cancer is unknown at this time. Lainey is going on January 8th back to sick kids to have an MRI and another exam that’s more in depth while she is put under .

at this time I’m just looking to help this family , Jess isn’t working and unfortunately did not qualify for full mat leave and her husband is working 7 days a week to make ends meet. They are going to need as much help as they can possibly get so he can take time off to come to appointments and not have to worry so much financially. On Thursday Lainey was diagnosed with stage D retinoblastoma meaning A being smallest E being biggest possible, Lainey is scheduled to have eye removal surgery On January 14th they will remove the eye and tumour, after that her eye will be replaced with a temporary prosthetic and remain in hospital for a few days for observation. Six weeks later she will be fitted for a more permanent, that being said OHIP does not cover the full cost and Lainey’s mom and dad is responsible for the remainder, at this time we are unsure what that can be it ranges from about 1000-5000, once her eye is removed they will send it off for genetic and mutation testing, in the event it has mutated Lainey could potentially need a round of chemo.
