Lacey and Velvet’s story

Donation protected
Hi my name is Julie. I am fundraising for my granddaughter, Lacey. Let me paint the picture. Lacey is 14 years old and lives, eats, breathes horses. She was born with a rare genetic condition causing her to be registered blind. Despite attending many gruelling hospital appointments and dealing with some awful testing Lacey has never let her diagnosis bring her down. She is a happy, kind soul and takes life and runs with it. She lives every day to her fullest and has found peace and calm with horses. After years of riding lessons, helping out at yards, and loaning ponies Lacey finally got her very own horse Velvet and was elated. She spent every spare moment she had with Velvet building an unbreakable bond that was clear to see by everyone. Lacey has struggled in school environments for as long as we can remember due to her vision and understandably being an anxious and shy young lady, but when she got Velvet the thought of school got easier as she had Velvet to look forward to at the end of the day. Lacey put her heart and soul into Velvet and together they were an amazing team and had really progressed in their skills. Because of her visual impairment, Lacey relies on this bond and it is increase to watch as she rides. Sadly in January Velvet suddenly became extremely poorly and out of kindness had to be put to sleep. This has had a massive impact on Lacey and her family, both emotionally and financially. Velvet was insured, and so hopefully the majority of the vet bills will be covered but even with this the family are left with some debt and this will have to be paid with the money Velvet was insured for. Leaving only a small amount in the pot for another horse in the future.
This is my reason for fund raising to make this a possibility sooner rather than later. My granddaughter has been left broken hearten and without her therapy and happy place and although nothing will ever replace Velvet or the bond they had the love of another her could help repair her heart. Her parents are working hard to save but with the rising prices of horses it feels it may be impossible and I’d like to help the family be able to create a little bit of happiness for her again. Thank you for taking the time to read this, it is very much appreciated.
