It’s crunch time for our community.
Royal Hobart Golf Club is still pushing hard for a 46 lot subdivision, despite community concerns about traffic and flooding issues. Their lawyers and experts are working to overturn Council’s refusal.
Clarence Council Aldermen have twice refused the golf club’s proposal for the subdivision. The golf club have taken their case to the appeals tribunal (TASCAT) hoping to overturn Council’s refusal. If this subdivision proceeds, we as a community will have to live with increased traffic and flooding issues, amongst others. The associated risks and impacts are long term, far reaching and unsustainable. Local residents T. Leale, L. Stevenson, A. Mulhern and SMBch Coast Care are representing our community at the Appeals Tribunal.
The Appeals Tribunal is a highly legal process and legal representation is vital to be truly effective. T. Leale and L. Stevenson have agreed to engage a Lawyer and a Geoscientist (groundwater expert), to ensure evidence is presented in line with the required tribunal regulations. This is the only way we can ensure stormwater and traffic planning issues are not dismissed or ignored.
The estimated bill is around ten thousand dollars and with a large number of Seven Mile Beach residents not wanting to see this development go ahead in its current form (if at all), we are appealing for financial support from the community.
It's heartening to see many have already shown support and interest, and some have indicated willingness to help financially. The more residents who contribute the lesser the burden on others.
In reality, it's up to us - our community - to stand up and take action to protect Seven Mile Beach.
Your support is key to helping us try to achieve this, every contribution will help (whatever you can afford) If 100 residents contribute $100 that’s $10,000
If 200 residents contribute $50 that’s $10,000
If 400 residents contribute $25 that’s $10,000

Any surplus funds at the end of proceedings will be returned to the contributors based on the percentage of their contribution to the overall amount raised.

Thank you
