My name is Filicia Brown. I am a single mother of a handsome little boy, Kyrie, who at just 4 years old is fighting a battle no child should ever have to endure.
A few months ago, after having multiple seizures, Kyrie was diagnosed with epilepsy. We were still coping with the reality of that diagnosis, when three weeks ago, I noticed that his stomach was much more distended than normal. I took him to the ER, where extensive testing confirmed the presence of fluid around his heart. Upon being transferred to Yale New Haven Health Children's Hospital, doctors discovered a 12cm mass around his heart. Though the procedure had a survival rate of just 50 percent, we made the difficult decision to have it biopsied. By the grace of God, Kyrie's strength saw him through.
I never, ever thought I would be typing these words, but here I am: My sweet boy was just diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma, a rare type of blood cancer. His little body has already endured so much, including invasive bone marrow testing and a PICC line insertion. Last week he began his grueling journey with Chemotherapy. I do not know what tomorrow will bring, but I do know that my strength as a single mother is going to be tested and that i can not be afraid to ask for help. They say it takes a village, and I have never needed my village more than I do in this moment. Can you help us?
There are no words to describe how grateful my family and I are for your support during this unimaginably diffucult time. Thank you.
