As most of my friends and family know, Derrick and I have been through the trenches with infertility. We spent 5 years working to get Kooper here and he is worth all the blood, sweat, tears and money it took to get him here. We are ready to add to our family and it hasn’t been without struggle already. 2 years ago IU Health introduced an infertility benefit of $15,000. It unfortunately went really fast. We did a failed IUI treatment almost 2 years ago, and with the rest of the money I purchased meds to start IVF. Well life happened and we were not able to start treatment. Fast forward 2 years to today, my meds are still within date and we are about to begin treatment. The cost of this treatment is approximately $14,000- and this is for one treatment cycle. If it fails I will be devastated, but I really am trying to think positively because Dr. Donahue has really high hopes for us. But between taking time off for appointments, the potential need for more injectable medications, and the obviously high cost of treatment we are STRESSED! And pretty tapped out financially as we are pulling out of my retirement to fund part of this…I am only writing all of this because I have had a handful of people ask me why we don’t start a go fund me. It feels icky asking for handouts, however I am putting my pride aside and am putting myself and my little family out there. While I expect nothing, truly, I would be beyond grateful for anything, even just prayers!! Next week we should be doing our egg retrieval and the following month if everything goes well and we have healthy embryos will be the transfer. Thank you all for sticking with me this far, and reading a very very shortened version of our fertility journey.
