Help Transform KWPOA's Acorn Lot for our Community

Throughout the past year, the Kent Woodlands Property Owners Association (“KWPOA”) has communicated with the membership through newsletters and multiple Q&A info sessions that our neighborhood entrance (the "Acorn Lot" at the bottom of Woodland Road) was long overdue for a clean-up to remove hazards. Last summer, we proposed a special assessment to fund an entrance beautification project that would have included a large clean-up followed by the creation of an area for members to gather on our private property (whether for children awaiting carpools or members gathering during our events), along with a large boulder that would include our neighborhood's acorn logo. In total, 310 of our members participated in the special assessment vote, and the results were 25 votes shy of achieving majority and passing. Therefore, the funding for this project would need to come from our normal operating budget.

Fast forward to today: as you've likely noticed, we have recently cleaned up the Acorn lot including the removal of hazardous trees at the recommendation of a licensed arborist. A Kent Woodlands resident and landscape designer has created what you see in the renderings here: a planting plan that will offer year round beauty in a natural woodland style, with ease of maintenance and a variety of textures that are evergreen and deer resistant. Given the feedback about concerns of possible negative impacts as a result of seating/gathering areas, hardscape, and walking paths, those elements have all been removed from this go-forward plan.

We believe this project will cost at least $50,000 for the implementation of these new elements, and we are requesting voluntary contributions to bring this landscape design to reality.

Contributions will go directly to KWPOA's bank account. Our Treasurer will track contributions and expenditures separately in KWPOA's financials. All Kent Woodlands residents (regardless of KWPOA membership status) are welcome to contribute, and should be aware that donations are not tax deductible. We also want to emphasize that donations will not result in any kind of special treatment of the contributors versus those who wish not to participate.

There will likely be minor changes to this plan prior to implementation, however these visuals largely represent what the board hopes to implement.

Please join in helping to create an entrance that reflects the pride we all feel about our beautiful Kent Woodlands community!
