VETERAN'S MEMORIAL PARK, INC. was formed in 1946, as a joint ownership of the American Legion Post 123 of Mount Airy and The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2019. The board of directors consists of five members from each the Posts to conduct business for the PARK. All funds received are from donations, revenues from events, and rentals and are used solely for the purposes of the PARK to fund the upkeep, operations, and utilities.
The main purposes of the "Park" are:
**to serve as a Memorial for all who served in any war or conflict.
**to provide a meeting place and recreation facilities for the members of both organizations.
**to provide a place for recreation for the community, veterans, and their families.
The PARK currently sponsors two major events per year in order to have the revenues needed for the PARK operations. The Old Time and Bluegrass Fiddlers Convention held in June and The Surry County Agricultural Fair held in September. Profits for the revenues of these events are the only income the
PARK has. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the park had to cancel the Old Time and Bluegrass Fiddlers Convention. The PARK is uncertain at this time whether the Surry County Agricultural Fair will be conducted as usual due to rules and regulations put forth by the state, county, and city pertaining to the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
We are asking our citizens to donate and give to the PARK fund in order to keep our PARK in operations during this difficult time. It is our duty as citizens and Americans to keep our local Veterans Memorial Park open and operable so it may continue to benefit all our Veterans Organizations, our Community and Families. These Organizations do a lot for our Veterans, families, and the community. Any donations are greatly appreciated no matter what the amount, we need to come together as a community to help provide in this time of need for our Veteran's Memorial Park. Thank you all so much for your time and understanding of this matter.
Thank you
