Hi everyone,
I’m happy to share that I will be participating in the Kutana Wema programme, a collaborative initiative between Redbird Therapy Centre in Toronto, Canada—where I work as a Registered Psychotherapist—and the Wema Centre in Mombasa, Kenya.
The Wema Centre rescues, rehabilitates, and reintegrates street-connected children. This programme is an opportunity to connect with and offer support to their beneficiaries through a trauma-informed, relationship-centred approach.
As part of my involvement, I have committed to raising at least $1,000 USD, which will be donated directly to the Wema Centre in March 2026. This is not money for my travel or programme costs; it goes straight to the life-changing services that the Wema Centre provides for to up to 150 children.
Why This Matters to Me:
Learning about the decades of work that the Wema Centre has put into supporting vulnerable children, I felt an immediate connection. As an undergraduate student, I had volunteered to lead arts-based programmes in low-income public schools in India, where I saw how creativity, care, and safe connection can transform a child’s sense of identity. This led me to start my career as a creative movement educator for children in K-5 settings, following which I began my journey as a therapist.
Where Your Donation Goes:
Your contribution will go directly to the Wema Centre, supporting:
- Safe housing and daily care for children experiencing homelessness
- Trauma-informed counselling and psychosocial support
- Education, life skills training, and pathways to independence
- Outreach to children and families living in extreme poverty
- Community programmes designed to break cycles of exploitation and hardship
Even a small donation creates a meaningful, tangible impact. To read more about the Wema Centre, check out their website: https://wemacentre.org/. For more information about the Kutana Wema programme: https://redbirdtherapy.ca/kutana/.
How You Can Help:

- Share this GoFundMe: Spreading the word truly helps.
Thank you for considering supporting this organization doing extraordinary work for children who deserve safety, dignity, and hope.
With love and appreciation,
Aanchal
