Kundayi Chiundiza School Project

Hi everyone!

My name is Corey Marsters and I attended St Andrews Cathedral School with Kundayi from 2007 to 2010.

On the 21st of June 2010, myself along with so many others woke to one of the darkest days in our lives. Our beautiful Kundayi was taken from us. Not only did this shatter my world but it effected so many people across different communities who knew Kundayi. For the people who didn’t know Kundayi, he was a young, strong hearted, wise man who lost his life in a very unfortunate school rugby game In 2010. Everyone knew him for his great big smile, cheeky laugh, kind heart and his tremendous charisma. He had the personality that would automatically make anyone he came into contact with fall in love with him. He had a strong presence whether that would be at church, school or on the rugby field.  He was a man who had the world at his feet. His opportunities in life were endless, and with the great support from his family and friends, he was destined for success.

Kundayi built a great foundation for himself at St Andrews Cathedral School, were he strived in sports, music and education. Since Kundayi’s passing his mother Grace has been hard at work planning and organising the Kundayi School based in Harare, Zimbabwe. A school that targets children from low and middle class families that cannot afford a decent education for their children. In line with the school myself and Grace have been working on 3 separate projects that support the school. Firstly is the music camps that run throughout the school holiday period in Harare. This project aims at teaching children not only just music, but how to epxress themesleves, how to work in a group as a team, how to share, how to listen and respect their peers. So far it has been a great success! The second project is aiming at the families of these children who struggle to support there young ones. Our ultimate goal is to empower, nurture and mentor families to be able to create a sufficient, consistant home environment through small and medium business investments. Thirdly is a project I have created. The project aims at several areas – Firstly is equipping the children with clothing, shoes, stationary, books, sporting equipment, educational material etc. Secondly is to be able to provide any resources or equipment to assist in the overall construction of the school and also to the families looking at establishing businesses to support there children and household.

What does all this mean? Well next year Grace and myself are travelling across to Harare, Zimbabwe to put all this work into action. Working with children through musical camps, assisting familes to create a strategic way to support their children and household and of course the contruction of the school. But not all of this will be possible without the help from the community. So I ask that if any of you have clothing, shoes, stationary, books, sporting equipment, musical instruments, art equipment or anything you think will be of great use to these children or our projects – Please donate! Money donations received will assist with the purchasing of logistics, equipment, musical equipment, sporting equipment, building equipment and extra resources in Zimbabwe to maximise the amount of children and families we can give a helping hand too. Things we take for granted in our everyday life are a distant dream for these children. Music, sports and education was a massive part of Kundayi’s life and if we can be a helping hand in making these children’s dreams and aspirations come true I know he will be extremely proud of us. I look forward to the journey ahead and the finishing project and keeping you all updated on our progress! If you have any questions or items to donate please don't hesitate to contact me below.

As the Ambassador for the Kundayi Chiundiza school project I will be withdrawing the funds and hold full responsibility of purchasing materials.

Thank you!
