Krista and Stanley's Village

Grow up, go to college, get married, buy a house, start a family. It seems like the natural progression of life for a majority of people. Unfortunately this path is not always so linear; everybody has a story, a struggle. This is a story about friends of mine Krista and Stanley Robinson. I've worked with Krista over the past 4 years and she's a dedicated and compassionate nurse. Krista quickly became one of my closest friends as we worked endless hours together in healthcare during the pandemic. As the world was suffering she was also going through an added private and personal struggle. Her husband Stanley is hands down the sweetest guy. He is always in a good mood, smiling, and bubbly. Starting a family was never a question, he would be just as great a father as he is a husband. He has been beside Krista in this journey since day one, trying not to let the pressure fall entirely on her. They have been trying to start their family for years, this was their “next step”. Their path to starting a family has been rocky to say the least. Now this often goes unspoken but it is not uncommon; infertility affects 1 in 8 couples. I’m sure someone you know; your sister, brother, cousin or friend has gone through this journey and it is not an easy one to face. It takes a toll emotionally, physically and financially.

After their fertility testing was completed Krista was diagnosed w/ PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) , a blocked tube and low ovarian reserve. All of these things can make becoming pregnant naturally very difficult. Come to find out their insurance did not cover any fertility treatments. They were given the option to try letrozole, a medication that would increase ovulation that is supposed to work well with PCOS. But 7 cycles later there was still no pregnancy. They have explored every avenue to help them through this journey, acupuncture, massage, therapy, vitamins and diets. Each cycle got harder and harder to see those negative pregnancy tests. This is when their reproductive endocrinologist recommended starting IVF and they agreed. Even with new insurance that has some coverage towards fertility treatments the costs are daunting.

Everybody has heard the term “it takes a village to raise a baby” in this case I think it takes a village to make a baby. These are two people that deserve to have the family they have been striving for. I’m asking for their “village” to help them on their journey to start a family.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story and all funds will be going directly to Krista and Stanley to help with their pregnancy journey.
