Keeping our roads as litter-free as possible and our corner of the world as beautiful as it can be is our mission - the mission of KHHB.
To date (March 2021), we have collected nearly 2,000 bags of trash, as well as thousands of pounds of large debris from our area roads and rivers.
The personal time and effort that our adopting individuals spend on the roads is our choice; however, because this is not just a once or twice-a-year event, maintaining this ongoing effort by working along the roadside can be quite dangerous, so VOLUNTEER MEMBER SAFETY is our primary concern.
Presently, we have 25 active groups under our KHHB umbrella who have officially adopted 2-mile segments of highway in our area, from Hemlock Farms to Pleasant Mount, and from Waymart to Narrowsburg NY, and many roads in between! With this increase in numbers comes an increase in the need for safety equipment.
Certain items for safety are needed such as SLOW DOWN traffic signs and handheld signs, traffic sign stands/easels, reflective wear (shirts/vests), reflectors/flashers, insect repellent, trash-grabbers, etc.. PennDOT does supply certain materials, but those are limited.
Certain promotional items are also needed in order for us to increase the awareness of our group, to educate the public on the harmful effects of discarded trash on our environment, and to spark people’s interest in volunteering with us.
Donors who wish to be apprised of expenditures will be provided with a spreadsheet at various times of the year or by request.
Our efforts have given us the chance to contribute to our community; our efforts have given us the possibility to see an immediate result that is both tangible and rewarding; additionally, our efforts have provided us with the opportunity to create an awareness that we hope has, and will continue to have, a positive impact on others as it relates to the maintenance and beautification of our area.
