KQT Connections: Seoul Queer Culture Festival Fundraiser

밑에 보시면 한글 있습니다: KQT connections is a storytelling project by and for Korean Queer and Trans (KQT) diasporic community with the goal of connecting KQTs across language and distance. As queer and trans Koreans and allies, we celebrate the wide spectrum of diverse identities, political values, and stories of the Queer and Trans community in Korea and around the world. We believe liberation is both a goal and a practice, and as part of our own liberatory practice we are sharing story and perspective from Sang-ha, a member of the Seoul Queer Festival Planning Committee. This interview connects Queer and Trans Korean communities from turtle island (US) to Korea. We believe that sharing queer stories - with lots of nuance - in both Korean and English, is a practice in visioning a world that those in power do not want to exist. In 2024, queer Palestine Solidarity organizers led a protest at the Seoul Queer Parade. They were protesting the planning committee’s decision to allow a booth with US, UK and German embassies at the event because these governments are actively aiding Israel in its escalated genocide of Palestinians since October 7, 2023. We join calls to end the occupation and lift the siege on Gaza, and we wanted to give Festival organizers an opportunity to share their perspective through a written interview about the social and political conditions in which they are organizing.** KQT 커넥션즈는 퀴어 트랜스 한국인 디아스포라 커뮤니티가 직접 우리 자신을 위하여 마련한 “스토리텔링 프로젝트”입니다. 언어의 장벽과 거리의 한계를 너머 교류하고자 기획합니다. 퀴어 및 트랜스 한국인과 앨라이로서, 우리는 한국과 전 세계 퀴어 및 트랜스 커뮤니티가 지닌 다양한 정체성, 정치적 가치, 그리고 이야기를 기념합니다. 우리는 해방이 단지 목표가 아니라 실천임을 믿으며, 그 실천의 일환으로 서울퀴어문화축제 조직위원회 위원인 상하의 이야기와 관점을 나누고자 합니다. 이 인터뷰는 터틀 아일랜드(미국)에서 한국에 이르는 퀴어 및 트랜스 한국 커뮤니티를 연결합니다. 우리는 권력을 쥔 이들이 존재하길 원하지 않는 세상을 상상하기 위해, 퀴어의 이야기를—복잡성과 뉘앙스를 담아—한국어와 영어로 나누는 것이 하나의 실천이라고 믿습니다. 2024년, 퀴어 팔레스타인 연대 활동가들은 서울퀴어퍼레이드에서 시위를 주도했습니다. 이들은 미국, 영국, 독일 대사관이 참여한 부스가 퍼레이드에 허용된 결정에 항의했습니다. 해당 국가들은 2023년 10월 7일 이후 이스라엘의 팔레스타인 집단학살을 적극적으로 지원하는 정부들이기 때문입니다. 우리는 점령 종료와 가자 지구 봉쇄 해제를 요구하는 목소리에 함께하며, 축제 조직위원들이 자신들이 활동하고 있는 사회적‧정치적 환경에 대해 서면 인터뷰를 통해 자신의 관점을 나눌 수 있는 기회를 제공하고자 했습니다.**
