***UPDATE (8/01/24): Aloha, we will soon be at the 1yr anniversary date that has put a major impact in our family. We have remained resilient and have started the recovery process and relocation. We miss our home (Hawai'i) and family that we have left behind and one day, will return. Our boys are registered for the upcoming academic school year however, we are still in need for support in stable housing. As we start developing in the workforce of the Silver State, our funds have depleted and humbly ask that you continue to support. I kindly ask that you continue to share my fundraiser with your network and appreciate all your continued prayers, help and support.***
My name is May Garcia, and I am creating this fundraiser to help my family and I after losing everything in the devastating tragic fire 08.08.23 that has put a scar on many of our friends, family and beautiful community of Lahaina, Maui. With blessings of temporary housing, clothing, necessities and monetary donations from friends, family and strangers near and far our family had the opportunity to begin the journey to heal and start over. Being relocated a short distance from the burn zone, we continue to feel the pain of that unforgettable day and continue to be of support for our 2 older children and their families (the oldest daughter, who is temporarily housed in neighboring hotels and another daughter whose family has been impacted by the loss of income due to the fire). Our only source of income currently comes from disaster unemployment insurance and through MEO our fire relief housing funds will soon be exhausted in February 2024 which brings me to humbly asking for your kokua. Every contribution, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated and will go directly towards providing permanent stable housing, which will allow our kids to be stable with their education needs and more importantly their health (mentally and physically). I am hopeful and have FAITH that affordable housing will open for our family.
**UPDATE (02/26/24): Mahalo nui for all who have taken the time to share and/or donate in support towards our families housing needs. Our fire relief housing has been extended to April 2024. I humbly ask that you continue to share my fundraiser as permanent shelter for our family is still uncertain. Again, Mahalo for all the positive thoughts and prayers, donations and continued Aloha shown towards my family and I. Malama Pono (take care)!**
Thank you in advance for your Aloha and Kokua, your kind words of support and encouragement help me to stay positive. It would be awesome if you continue to help me by sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family and networks that will bring our family closer to having a place to call "home".
Mahalo Nui,
May Garcia
