Knighton Park Leicester - Sensory Play Area
Donation protected
My name is Sandra Salmon and I am a committee member of the Friends of Knighton Park, Leicester and we are planning a new sensory play area on Knighton Park. We have consulted with parents of children with special needs and listened to their views and it has become clear through our consultation that many families love the park but feel that their children are excluded from the existing play equipment because of their disability.
We want children with disabilities to feel valued and included and to be able to have the same opportunities to play and enjoy themselves. To quote one parent "it would be lovely for our child to be able to play too rather than being pushed around and watching other children play". Our plans include a wheelchair accessible roundabout, as well as colourful play panels and musical chimes. We would also like to include wheelchair accessible picnic tables.
We have met with play specialists from the Council and the Friends of Knighton Park are now in a position to partly fund this new venture which will include ground work preparation, installation and completion. The actual cost of the equipment is £10,538 with the total cost being £26,693. So, we need to raise more money to complete our plans to enable ALL children to benefit from play. After discussion with the Treasurer of the Friends of Knighton Park it has been agreed that any monies received from donations made to GoFundMe will be transferred by bank transfer to the Friends of Knighton Park bank account.
Times have been difficult for a lot of us during this last year but how wonderful it would be to achieve our plans and make this an amazing addition to our lovely park. Any donation, however small, will be greatly appreciated. Please rest assured that if full funds are not raised the Committee of the Friends of Knighton Park will ensure that all monies donated will be set aside for this project and will not be used elsewhere.
