Dilley Pro Bono Project

Donation protected
Our legal team of six attorneys and three assistants, who will be volunteering at the Dilley Detention Center the week of Christmas, December 22-28, 2019, has created this Go Fund Me Page to raise funds for costs associated with our work.

The Dilley Pro Bono Project (DPBP), a local partner in the Immigration Justice Campaign, operates a non-traditional pro bono model of legal services that directly represents immigrant mothers and children detained at the 2,400-bed South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas. The vast majority of families detained here are fleeing extreme violence in Central America and elsewhere and are seeking asylum in the United States.

Our legal team will be working to help these women and children seeking asylum in the United States.  For five days, 10-12 hours per day, we will be helping detainees prepare for "credible fear" interviews.  These interviews are conducted to determine whether the detainees can show a credible fear of violence in their home countries, sufficient to be granted asylum in the United States.  The Dilley Pro Bono volunteers are entirely self-funded, and are donating their time away from their jobs and families, to help these mothers and children seeking asylum.   Each volunteer will also have to fund his or her costs for travel to and around Dilley, accommodation nearby, food, and other necessities.  We are asking for your help.  100% of your donations will go to offset these costs, and any funds raised over what is needed will be donated to help future groups assisting with the Dilley Pro Bono Project.

We are all dedicated and passionate about helping these survivors find a safe place to live and thrive, and experience the freedom of living a life without fear of violence.  We are excited to go and share our stories and experience with our home communities, who we rely on to help get us there!
