As some of you already know, last week my sister Josey spent a week in the hospital recovering from a major mental health crisis. I am raising money to help her get back on her feet. Finding the right care for her has not been easy because she does not receive health care benefits from her employer. Additionally, she has been lucky to find a good network of LGBTQ affirmative professionals for her treatment but it has required a great deal of effort and logistics to sustain this network given her health care status. She has been commuting 20 miles or more at times to receive the care she needs without racking up debt.
I am raising money to cover the cost to repair her car, which is necessary to help her drive to get the treatment she needs in order to continue to recover. Yesterday we took her car to the mechanic for repairs and we were told that it would need to have the brakes and tires repaired in order to be safe to drive. She currently is immobile while we raise funds to complete repairs and get her back on the road. We are working on getting her more treatment and therapy but she will need her car to drive to the appointments. The total cost for repairs is at least $2,500.
As well we are hoping to raise a bit of extra to give her additional funds to help her get cover a few needs she has been struggling to cover due to fatigue and poor health. We are hoping to raise an additional $500 or more to help her purchase new glasses and contacts, get a haircut, and any additional expenses that come up as she takes time off of work to pursue additional treatment full time.
We are also hoping for additional help to take her sweet aging dog Zelda to the vet for care and medications. We don’t know how much it will cost but we are guessing it be $450 or more.
