I hope all is well back home. I miss you all so much and think about you guys daily. Although I am looking forward to seeing you all again, I am not yet ready to leave Urubamba--there is still so much to be done. You have all contributed to the person that I am today and each choice that I make is a reflection of my upbringing and experience back at home. I was hoping that I could coalesce my history and background with my current journey and life here in Urubamba. A way to do this is by involving you in my next project. One of the neighboring communities that my NGO, ProPeru, works with is Pilleray; like many communities surrounding the Sacred Valley, this community is a developing one. With your help, I hope to augment their present capabilities and increase their standard of living by implementing sustainable practices and enriching their agricultural diversity. And this can be accomplished by erecting greenhouses for the community. Greenhouses have the capacity to increase their well-being in both a physical and financial way. With greenhouses, I hope to introduce nutritionally dense vegetables into their diet so they receive the vitamins needed to sustain a healthy lifestyle. From an economic standpoint, greenhouses, which facilitate plant growth and yield, can serve as another source of income for the community. They would be able to sell their produce in the local markets as well as decrease personal expenditures by not having to buy most of their vegetables.
On behalf of Pilleray, Bridge Year Peru, and myself, thank you so much for your support.
With much love, Esther Julis
