Kiwi Al's Christmas Toy Run

Our friend Alan McClure, was always passionate about helping other people, from volunteering as a Surf Life Saver and Rural Fire Fighter, to  donating clothes and food to the homeless, he was always looking for a way to help.

In previous years he would purchase toys to donate to the Christmas Wishing Trees and other collections. But last year he wanted to do more and decided to set up his own collection, Kiwi Al’s Christmas Toy Run. Throughout the year he gradually grew his collection of toys and was contacting charity organisations to organise delivery of toys for Christmas.

Sadly, in October 2017, Alan passed away at the age of 34. He was a greatly loved son, brother, uncle, friend and workmate, who will be missed by so many people.

We decided that we wanted to help make Alan’s dream come true of helping make Christmas a lot happier for a lot of children who would otherwise go without.

The word was sent out to everyone that knew Alan and the response was overwhelming, we had donations come in from all over New Zealand, Australia and the world. It is amazing how many people he touched and they all wanted to help his dream come true.

Thanks to the amazing donations we received, we were able to donate hundreds of toys to several wonderful charities. We made donations to Exodus Foundation, Dee Why Salvation Army, Penrith Women’s Health Centre, Redfern Women’s Refuge, Christchurch Salvation Army and Sydney Children’s Hospital.

This year we plan on making it bigger and better, and would love your support to help keep his dream alive. Every dollar you provide will help buy a gift to make Christmas a lot brighter for a child.
