Kitsap COVID-19 PPE Maker: Coronavirus Support Fund
Background:
With over 100,000 confirmed Coronavirus cases in the United States and numbers rising by the hour, medical professionals and first responders are faced with the difficult task of protecting themselves while trying to save others. Coronavirus spreads at an alarming rate and the need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is at an all-time high. Hospitals and manufacturers are struggling to keep up with the growing demand for the masks and face shields needed to keep their front line healthy and we want to help alleviate some of that burden.

Kitsap Sun: Kitsap health care workers face protective gear shortage
Right now, in hospitals all over the country, including in Kitsap County and surrounding areas, healthcare workers are being asked to reuse masks for days on end, putting their own well-being at risk. While these heroes may be okay with the risks, I want to help protect them as much as possible so they can continue saving lives.
I have joined the Kitsap COVID-19 PPE Maker Team (Facebook Group) and am asking the community to help me in this endeavor.
My Goal:
As a maker in Kitsap County joining this team, my goal is to provide urgently-needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - such as face shields and respirator masks - to the local medical community FREE of charge and organize delivery of PPE on a weekly basis. Current feedback to the PPE maker team from healthcare workers, nurses, and doctors has been 100% positive.
I want to do my best to support our local medical staff by providing them with as many face shields as possible. This design is made from biodegradable plastic, is reusable, and can be disinfected at the medical worker's discretion.
100% of donations will go directly toward creating and distributing 3D printed PPE to healthcare professionals.
I am grateful for any donations toward this cause. Even $5 can make a difference for a healthcare professional in need of a reusable mask or face shield. If you can't donate, please consider sharing this page on your own social media platform. Thank you for all your generous support of this endeavor!
What is Needed:
As with anything, it does take time and money, but I know my community can make it happen! Here is what is needed to produce face shields:
- Filament for the 3D printer
- Binding covers for face shields
- Elastic
- Gallon size bags for packaging
- Additional 3D printers to increase production
With my 3D printer, current production rate allows me to make 50 masks per week. To increase production it would take additional 3D printers. The current go fund me goal includes the cost to increase production an additional 150 masks per week and I am committed to producing as many as the community would like to assist in making!
What Your Contribution Can Do
To give you an idea, here is what your contribution can do.
-$5 is enough to produce 3 complete face shields
-$10 is enough to purchase enough gallon size bags to individually package 100 complete face shields
-$20 is enough to by 1 kilogram of filament which will produce enough frames for 37 face shields
-$100 is enough to produce 62 face shields
-$500 is enough to provide a 3D Printer which will increase production by 25 face shields per week
