My name is Nick Aviles, a Life Scout with BSA Troop 990 in Austin. For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I am leading Kits for Kids: El Salvador, a drive to collect new and gently used soccer shoes (sizes 1–10) and soccer balls (sizes 4–5) for underserved youth at Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Paleca in Ciudad Delgado, El Salvador. Your contributions, of any amount, will help purchase supplies, materials, and cover travel costs. Any unused funds will be given directly to the beneficiary.
Ciudad Delgado is part of the metropolitan area of San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. Poverty levels in Ciudad Delgado are significant, with a high percentage of the population living in poverty. Many residents of Ciudad Delgado face challenges related to financial instability, lack of access to necessities, and limited opportunities. In a country just shy of 6.5 million people, half of the population's children and teenagers survive off less than $1.25 a day. It is common for impoverished young children in El Salvador not to attend school regularly, and child labor is still an issue to this day.
Soccer has played a huge role in my life. It is more than just a game. It has taught me teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. It has helped me make friends, build confidence, and create memories that I will never forget. But in many parts of the world, including El Salvador, many kids do not have access to the basic equipment they need to fully enjoy the sport. Some children play barefoot. Others use homemade balls made of plastic bags. But their passion for the game is just as strong as ours. Through this project, my goal is to help these children have the same opportunities we have had to play safely, to compete, and to grow through soccer. Please consider donating, at any level. Thank you.
