Empower San Diego's Youth Through Literacy

A Life Without Books
Imagine a home without books... it's hard to picture, isn't it? Unfortunately, this is the reality for many children in San Diego. What's even more disheartening, according to a 2020 study by the San Diego Council on Literacy, 60% of low-income students don't have a single book at home. And in low-income communities, there is only one book available for every 300 children!

This drastic shortfall of educational resources is a huge roadblock, derailing academic growth and drastically narrowing the future prospects of these kids.

My name is Claude Jones, and I'm the creator of Astro the Monster and the proud owner of Kids in Leadership. As someone who believes in the power of education and empowerment, I'm dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of San Diego children through the power of literacy.

It's Time for Action
I am partnering with Words Alive, a leading literacy organization, to support the distribution of 3,000 book kits to children aged 4-8 across San Diego.

The kits, powered by the Astro the Monster book series, are designed to nurture positive mental health, empathy, and emotional intelligence, thanks to relatable characters and engaging plots.

Our goal is to spark a love for reading at an early age, helping these children develop crucial skills and a lifelong passion for learning.

Astro the Monster Book Kit
The "Astro the Monster" book kits being donated as part of the "Kits for Kids" initiative are carefully curated to provide a comprehensive and enriching experience for young readers. The kit includes: all four books in the Astro the Monster series, a handy bookmark to keep your place in the books, as well as a sheet of colorful character stickers, and a set of character trading cards.

Making a Positive Impact on Our Community
Your support can make a tremendous impact on these young lives. Here's why your donation matters:

  • Closing the Education Gap: By giving kids access to these book kits, we're breaking down educational disparities, so every San Diego kid gets a fair shot at learning and growing.

  • Building Stronger Communities: Investing in our youth is investing in the future of San Diego. By supporting Kits for Kids, you are fostering a culture of reading, empathy, and personal growth, creating a stronger and more vibrant community for everyone.

Thank you...
Growing up, I faced the challenges of low self-esteem, anxiety, and fear. I know firsthand the despair of losing hope in life. However, I've also experienced the incredible impact of having someone who believes in you, builds your self-confidence, and guides you through life's obstacles. Thanks to a single act of kindness, I transformed from a failing junior high school student into a first-generation college graduate and now a senior tech executive. I've been blessed with opportunities, and I'm truly grateful for the chance to pay it forward to the next generation. Your invaluable support in our efforts means the world to me.
