Where do we start? Firstly, by saying that us setting up this fundraising page and asking for help is not something that comes naturally to us nor Steve and his family but here goes…
Kit is a lovable little boy who will soon celebrate his third birthday. With a little sister and two big sisters who cherish him dearly. Kit is surrounded by a family that love him immensely. However, his young life has been marked by numerous visits to the GP and Pediatricians over the last two years, as his parents’ sought answers to his persistent health issues, initially attributed to constipation.
Three weeks ago, Kit's condition worsened, prompting a visit to his local hospital where ultrasound and CT scans brought devastating news. Kit was diagnosed with stage 4, high-risk neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that affects young children. Stage 4 indicates that the cancer has spread to multiple locations in his body.
Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer, with around 100 children in the UK diagnosed each year. Among childhood cancer diagnoses, it accounts for six out of 100 cases, with the majority occurring in children under the age of five. The high-risk group to which Kit belongs faces a five-year survival rate of approximately 50%. Despite these grim statistics, Kit's family remains hopeful and determined to support him through his treatment.
Kit has already undergone biopsies and had a special line fitted, referred to by children as a "wiggly," which is used to administer his chemotherapy. Last week, he received six sessions of chemotherapy spread over three days. His treatment is projected to last between 12 to 18 months, a long and challenging journey for both Kit and his family.
In this difficult time, Kit's father Steve has not left his son's bedside since the heartbreaking diagnosis. However, as a self-employed individual, Steve faces financial strain due to his inability to work while caring for Kit. This fundraiser seeks to alleviate the financial burden on Steve, allowing him to spend as much time as possible with his son during this crucial period.
Adding to the complexity of their situation, Steve and his older children, Sienna and Mirella, live in Kent, while Kit and his little sister Rue live in the Midlands. The funds raised will support travel expenses for Kit's older siblings to visit him and provide financial assistance to Steve. This will enable him to focus on being there for Kit without the added stress of financial worries.
Steve is a person who wears his heart on his sleeve, known for his willingness to help others regardless of the personal challenges he faces. Friends of Steve and Kit's family hope to ease some of their burdens and bring positivity, strength, and hope to this beautiful family as they navigate an unimaginable time. No parent should have to endure the pain and heartache that Steve and the family are experiencing.
Kit is receiving treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital, a facility dedicated to providing the best care for young patients. Kit's battle against neuroblastoma is a challenging journey that requires immense support from the community, this can be through donations and sharing the fundraiser page, this is vital in helping this family during their time of need. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in allowing Steve to remain by Kit's side and easing the financial strain on his family allowing them to focus on what truly matters – being there for their beloved little boy.
If donating is not feasible, sharing Kit's story across all platforms can help reach more people, spreading awareness and increasing support. This collective effort can provide the much-needed assistance to Kit and his family.
Please keep Kit and his family in your thoughts and prayers, and join us in sending positivity and hope their way.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read Kit's story. Your support and kindness are deeply appreciated.
