Kirriemuir Town House Museum

Donation protected
Built in 1604, the Town House stands in the historic centre of Kirriemuir. It was once the centre of the local government and over the centuries has also served as the town's jail, post office, shop and chemist.

It was run as a museum by Angus Council and became the home of objects related to the iconic Bon Scott of ACDC as well as Pictish stones, and Victorian costume.

The museum was closed in 2023 and, hearing that this historic site was at risk of permanent closure, our townspeople decided to take action. We are delighted to announce that the Kirriemuir Regeneration Group (SC054811) is now taking on ownership of this incredible building from Angus Council.

Kirriemuir Town House Museum will be run as a community owned museum, making our history as central to the town as the building is by; sharing the history and stories of our town's folk; create a space for local events; supporting local makers and performers; and to provide opportunities for learning about oor wee red toon.

To do this, we need your help.

The Kirriemuir Regeneration Group is a charity, entirely run by local volunteers and so we depend on donations.

Donations to the Town House Museum will go to the care of the building, supporting contemporary displays and events held in the museum and creating new, relevant exhibitions about the town's fascinating history.

Supporters will receive a special newsletter from our curator and volunteers, updating you with progress and sharing news of our, events, and research into the collections. All things which are only made possible through your support. By donating you become an important part of the museum's continuing history and help keep our community history alive for generations to come.

Help us create something special; a museum that's run by the community, for the community.
