Kira's Eagle Scout Project: The West 87th St Park and Garden
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kira Cheng. I’m a Life Scout with Troop 777, and am currently working towards the rank of Eagle Scout. As part of earning this highest rank in Scouting, I am leading a service project that will have a lasting, positive impact on my local community, and I’d love your support.
For my Eagle Scout Project, I’ll be assisting the West 87th Street Park & Garden in New York City, a beautiful and beloved community space. My goal is to enhance the garden’s accessibility and appearance, making it more welcoming and inclusive for everyone, especially individuals with mobility challenges, such as those using walkers, wheelchairs, or strollers.
Currently, about one-third of the garden is not accessible due to narrow, uneven pathways. My project will focus on widening and resurfacing those paths to create a smoother, safer experience for all visitors. This includes:
- Removing old stone borders
- Relocating plants along the pathways
- Laying and leveling new gravel
- Installing new, accessible slate stone surfaces
I’m looking to raise $1,100 and any extra raised will be donated to the garden. Your generous donation will help cover the cost of materials like gravel, stone slates, landscaping tools, and supplies needed to complete the project. Every dollar is greatly appreciated and makes a difference, getting us closer to a more inclusive and inviting garden for all.
Thank you for supporting me on my path to Eagle Scout, and I am excited to get started!
