A Heartfelt Journey: Giving Back to a Kind Family in Thailand
Last Christmas was one of the hardest times of my life — my mother passed away just two days before Christmas 2023. When Christmas 2024 came around, I decided to do something different. I travelled solo through Thailand, searching for peace, reflection, and healing.
During that journey, I met a kind and humble family who changed my life. They welcomed me into their half-built farm home in the countryside with open arms and asked for nothing in return — only offering warmth, food, and genuine kindness.
In this small, unfinished home lives a young boy named Boat and his 70-year-old grandmother. The boy’s mother had recently passed away, leaving his elderly grandmother to care for him alone. In Thai culture, it’s believed that changing a child’s name can change their fate — and so, after Boat fell ill often, his name was changed in hopes of bringing him better health and a brighter path ahead.
Despite living in 40°C heat with no air conditioning, no proper beds, and very little furniture, they showed me a level of kindness and generosity that deeply touched my heart.
Around their home are many stray dogs — cared for and fed by locals who share what little they have. Their compassion toward both people and animals reminded me that even in hardship, there is incredible goodness.
This December, I’ll be returning to Thailand to visit this beautiful family again. I want to give back to them — not in words, but in action. My goal is to raise funds to gift this family financial support directly, so they can finish their home, bring comfort to their lives, and secure a brighter future for young Boat.
Part of the donations will also go toward buying air conditioning for their home and feeding and caring for stray dogs in the area. I’ll be recording and sharing the journey across my social media, showing the donation process and how it’s making a difference.
How the family chooses to use the money beyond that is entirely up to them — I simply want to help make life a little easier for people who showed such selfless kindness when they had so little.

The Moral of the Story
When I first travelled to Thailand, I was struggling with grief and my mental health after losing my mum. Then I met a little boy who had also recently lost his mother. Despite living in a half-built house under harsh conditions, Boat and his grandmother showed me kindness and strength that I’ll never forget.
I realised that while I was struggling, my challenges were nothing compared to the difficulties this young boy faces every day. It was a humbling experience — one that helped me heal and find new purpose.
Helping this family reminded me of something I once read: “If you help someone else achieve their dream, it will help yours come true.” Their dream is simple — a safe, comfortable home. And their story reminded me how much we take for granted, and how powerful compassion can be.
I’m doing this not only to help them, but also to raise awareness about mental health and the importance of giving back to those less fortunate.

This Christmas, I want to be Santa for this family — to bring them joy, warmth, and hope. While many of us celebrate the holidays surrounded by comfort and abundance, there are families like this one who have so little yet still give so much.
By donating, you’re helping me bring a little Christmas magic to those who truly deserve it — a reminder that kindness and generosity can change lives.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping me bring light to this family and their community this Christmas. ❤️
