Let's get her rolling!

The vision may have started after she got worked on the rink. Possible. Maybe day- dreaming at her day job...even more possible. Maybe suddenly having two teenagers, or the football players in the recent news sparked something long since relegated to the sub-sub-conscious. Whatever the reason, here's what happened...
A team of women got together. One of those women is my wife. These women decided they'd had enough, and really, really, wanted to do something about violence. So, they decided to do what they do-roller skate. Hey, they're “Derby Girls”, yeah, as in “Roller Derby”. I'll be the first to admit I don't quite get it. But, I will say that they're organized...like the Army...with hearts as big as, well, the organization that they're raising funds for: The Joyful Heart Foundation .
1 Country, and it's a big one. The `ol red, white and blue. It's a lot to take in all at once. Coast to coast is a long way to go on four wheels. They'll be starting on March 5, 2015 in Cocoa Beach, FL, and ending, well...let's just say, when it's done-in Santa Monica, CA. These are women that do what they say, and say what they mean.
2,700 Miles is like 40 miles a day. Yeah, read that again. I don't have the mental discipline to ride to work most days, and these ladies are doing a marathon and then some, every day, for 70+ days. Did I mention they plan to do it self-supported? As in, without any sort of vehicle schlepping their gear?
Sold, I'm in, how can I help? Good question, you're obviously the smart one. I'm asking for a couple of bucks. The amount of money you and I spend on that half-caff, soy milk, frapa-whatchamacallit. That much. Now, I don't want to detract from their ultimate goal to raise money to end violence, but here's the thing: We have to support these skaters so they can roll across the States, making lots of money and raising awareness for this super-important cause. Do you know how much a derby girl eats after skating 40 miles/day? My wife alone could put you to shame.
Wait, one more time?? Listen up, 'cause here we go: This is Derby Girls vs. The United States of America, in an end-all-be-all skate across the U.S of A. These hard-core skaters will join with the Joyful Heart Foundation to end domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. They need your help to get to the Atlantic coast and they'll get themselves to the Pacific...
How else can I help? Spread the word! Part of a derby league along the route , or a long lost friend of my wife? Host some stinky skaters at your home over-night. Donate money to the Joyful Heart Foundation in honor of Kim Bouldin. Donate gift cards from restaurant/hotel chains so these women can have an occasional warm meal and safe place to sleep at night.
