Please help my niece, Kim, and her children. The picture above was taken in happier times at her oldest daughter’s graduation.
Unfortunately, Kim and her children are now in a desperate situation. Her husband, Scott, was arrested and sent to jail in 2015. For a number of years, he suffered from a gambling addiction which he managed to hide from his family. Like most gambling addicts, he found himself in severe financial trouble. In desperation, he “borrowed” money from his clients’ accounts to cover his mounting debts. His intention was simply to replace the funds when he won at the casino. But he kept losing and moving money around … until he got caught.
Kim and her five children are now facing imminent eviction from their home. She is working as many hours as possible. The older children are all working to contribute what they can. But it costs a lot of money to support a household and family of this size, and there was never enough to cover the mortgage payments.
Selling her house is not an option for Kim because there are mortgages and past payments due and liens on the house from Scott’s aggrieved clients. She has no choice but to wait to be evicted and she expects that to happen very soon.
I am requesting GoFundMe money to pay for a year’s rent for this family. Scott is not expected to be released for at least two more years. He has always been a devoted husband and father and Kim is hoping to keep the family together until he returns to them.
Here is a link to a video his daughters created for the NCPG (National Council on Problem Gambling). http://www.ncpgambling.org/family-of-new-york-man-raise-awareness-about-problem-gambling/
When released, Scott would like to become a speaker and counselor to help other families struggling with the devastating toll gambling addiction takes on them.
Kim never wanted to ask for help with her struggle, but is now at her wits end. She simply does not know where to go with her family when they are forced out of her home. I asked her to allow me to reach out to all of you using this GoFundMe site. Please help! Anything you donate will go directly to Kim to help pay for a rental apartment.
