Kilimanjaro Climb - Alzheimer's Association

Dear all, Trudy and I have set our sights on a challenging adventure - we are attempting to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro from May 29th to June 3rd. And we want to use this event to raise money for a cause that is close to our hearts - Alzheimer’s disease. As you may know, Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative brain disease that affects 55 million people worldwide, including my father, Charlie Akery. Our family is dealing with this tough disease, and we want to support the Alzheimer's Association in their mission to end Alzheimer's and all other dementias by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research. They work on a national and local level to provide care and support for all those affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias. As the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research, the Association is committed to advancing vital research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure. The Association is the leading voice for Alzheimer's disease advocacy, fighting for critical Alzheimer’s research and care initiatives at the state and federal level. Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain on the African continent and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. We will be taking the Rongai Route, and it will take 7 days to reach the summit. We will hike more than 50 miles and reach an elevation of 19,350 feet. We are excited about the challenge, and we hope you will join us in supporting this important cause.
