Hope for Vietnamese Slum Orphans

Donation protected
For Dr. Vu Vo, it all started with hearing one story come out of an orphanage in Vietnam. A mom dropped her 3-year-old girl off for a temporary stay but then never came back. The girl was sick and hungry and cried a lot, but the orphanage didn’t have money for milk for her. The orphanage gathered the kids, prayed for a miracle, and the next day had milk and bread on their doorstep!

They call the orphanage “Happy Home,” and it is run by a relative of Dr. Vo’s, “Mother Van.” He learned just recently that she’s been taking care of abandoned kids for over 10 years. And the “orphanage” she’s running is simply caring for as many kids as she can in her own home with her own money.

In Vietnam, in order to qualify for government aid, you have to first be wealthy enough, with enough people on staff in a nice facility. Mother Van makes and sells sugar cane, and her husband is a pastor. Their heart for these children is so great, but they are limited by what they themselves can offer.

Currently, there are 46 kids at the orphanage ranging in age from 4 to 17. Mother Van and her husband, along with a few of their friends, care for these kids 24/7, and their stories just break our hearts. Here are a few:

• “I have 4 sisters and the youngest one has birth defect and had to go thru several extensive surgeries. My birth mother has diabetes and kidney failure. My dad committed suicide because of not being able to pay all the debt. Mother Van and her husband took us in to give us a place to live and to send us to school to get education. I love Mother Van and Father Hoang so much. Please God bless their heart.” - Truong, age 19

• Thai has one younger brother and their father passed away in an accident. His mother was paralyzed and could not work to support him and his brother. Because their mother was unable to care for them, she dropped them both off at the Happy Family house one day and they have lived there ever since. - Thai, age 12

• Nguyen’s dad died when she was born her birth mother is currently in jail and severely infected with HIV and is not expected to live much longer. Her grandparents dropped her off at the Happy Family home one day and never came back. - Nguyen, age 10

When we visited, we watched the kids eat their normal meal, a small portion of white rice, a small piece of meat, and a little bowl of soup. Looking at them eating such a small portion yet so happy and helping each other really broke our hearts.

In an effort to lead from the front, Dr. Vo has already personally donated an initial $10,000 towards Happy Home to meet the immediate needs of the children. This initial donation has provided clothing, food and school fees for each child in the home.

We are committed to helping this home and these children in concrete ways. Their needs are great however with your support we can meet and exceed their basic needs.

Here's where you come in!

With the support of our Dental office family, we plan to raise an additional $10,000 to further fund the future of these children.

With every new child that finds their way to the home, they are in more need of room so they have a need for additional housing which will require additional rent money. A generous neighbor has provided additional living space for a short time but that has come to an end and Mother Van is now in need of finding a new second home for the children.

The $10,000 that we are asking you to help with will provide a roof over their heads, a bed for them to sleep on, food and also school fees.

Will you help us with:

• Partnering with them so that one day they can have legal status with the government and therefore receive more aid and support from their local community. We are working toward that goal by creating business possibilities in Vietnam so we can financially support them in the near future.

• Raising funds additional funds for ongoing housing, food, clothing, and medicine.

• Visiting them in person and teaching them valuable skills that they will take with them into adulthood. Our goal is to help them understand how to let go of their past and to move forward to a positive and bright future that they are all capable of.

With your help, we will be able to meet these needs in a greater way. We would like to invite you to partner with us in our mission to help the beautiful children in Happy Home and we value any contribution you can make to this cause and we are thankful to you for taking the time to hear their story!

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We hope you will join in this great movement to help the children of Happy Home!
