Kids Supporting Kids in Uganda

Hello! Our names are Amelia, Layla, and Anna - daughters and mother. We live a privileged life with easy access to everything that we need and want.  We are especially lucky to have access to a good education as so many kids around the world don't.

We've decided to try to make a difference.  We are going to raise $10,000 to send 26 kids to school for one year in eastern and southern Uganda.  According to the United Nations, more than 700,000 girls in Uganda between the ages of 6 to 12 have never attended school. In fact, around half of girls between the ages of 15 to 24 are illiterate and 4 in 5 girls do not attend high school.  We know that the best way to move out of poverty is education. 

While we will be sponsoring individual people, the funds will be going through The Joy Collective.  This is a feet-on-the-ground non-profit run by our friend Jessie Marianiello.  She lives in Uganda and has dedicated her life to improving the lives of widows and vulnerable children through education and empowerment. We love Jessie and the work she is doing in the world.

So, here's our plan.  We are devoting the first $1000 raised to educate Moreen (pictured with the light blue bow around her waist) and her three siblings for one year.  School starts in February 2020 and they will only be able to go to school because of this fundraising.  Here are the kids with their Mom and Dad.



The remaining $9000 will be dedicated to sponsoring high school-age girls.  This is the age that they often have to drop out of school to support their families.   Each $400 will pay for 1 year of tuition, books, lunch, and uniforms.  We'd like to support 22 girls.  Rachel (shown below) is one of the girls that we'll be supporting.



While fundraising is important, we also want to meet the kids.   So, we are flying to Uganda in August of 2020 to meet the children we are sponsoring.  We are covering all of our trip expenses so that 100% of your donations go toward sponsorships.
