Kids of Lombok - Cows project

Hi! My name is Dylan, and I split my time between Australia and Lombok, Indonesia.

Since moving to Lombok, I’ve had the opportunity to visit an orphanage that cares for over 150 children. Meeting these wonderful kids was incredibly emotional—they live in very poor conditions. This experience deeply moved me, and since then, I’ve made it a priority to visit regularly, bringing donations of food, clothing, and other essentials.

Too often, they face shortages of basic necessities like rice and vegetables. This is not a situation we can ignore. These kids deserve better, and I’m committed to helping improve their lives.

With my friend Jousef, we organized our first campaign to quickly raise funds to provide essential food supplies for the orphanage. Thanks to generous contributions, we were able to meet their immediate needs. However, this was only a short-term solution. To help the orphanage achieve stability and reduce its dependence on donations, we need a long-term approach.

We’re now launching a new campaign with the goal of moving the orphanage toward self-sufficiency by raising funds to purchase cows.

Why cows?

The cows will graze on a nearby field, and in a few months, the orphanage can sell them at a higher price. We plan to buy female cows so they can reproduce over time, creating a sustainable source of income. This investment will enable the orphanage to purchase food independently, contributing to lasting food security for the children. A cow shelter is already under construction, thanks to other generous donors, and remaining funds from our previous campaign will help with the cow purchase as well.

To give you a better idea of the cost, each pregnant cow is around $1,500 AUD, and we hope to purchase 3-4 of them.
